Folklore and an artsy, fartsy, crafty ending

Posted by Mike Spoodles on August 28th, 2008 filed in food

Well, it’s Thursday, and I’m surprisingly happy to announce that it’s the end of our Thursdayly adventure, Arts and Farts and Crafts. It’s been a fun ride, and I’ve been happy with all of your contributions over the weeks, but I feel like I’ve accomplished what I’ve set out to do with this thing: [...]

Tuesdays With Dorie - Chocolate-Banded Ice Cream Torte

Posted by Mike Spoodles on August 25th, 2008 filed in food

When I saw the picture in Dorie Greenspan’s cookbook, “Baking:  From My Home To Yours,” I was taken aback.  This was going to be the hardest TWD recipe yet!  I just knew it.
FALSE.
It actually may have been the easiest one, albeit the most time-consuming.  The ganache came together well, as did the ice cream.  I [...]

Arts and Farts and Crafts is a weekly artistic challenge. Every Thursday, a new prompt will be posted here on Ugly Food for an Ugly Dude. Then, you will create some sort of media based on the prompt. Is it a rhyming couplet? A ten-page story? A photograph? A drawing? A recipe? Whatever you’d like. [...]

Tuesdays With Dorie - Granola Grabbers

Posted by Mike Spoodles on August 19th, 2008 filed in baking, food, tuesdays with dorie

Well, let’s see here.  Today’s recipe was Granola Grabbers.  I followed the recipe to the letter, even making a last-minute run for coconut.
I plopped my cookies out onto the parchment-ed tray, and I stuck my trays in the oven.  Easy.  So easy.  And if the dough was any indication, these cookies were going to be [...]

Tuesdays With Dorie - Blueberry Sour Cream Ice Cream

Posted by Mike Spoodles on August 12th, 2008 filed in baking, food, tuesdays with dorie

I was really good this week, I swear!  After I made the decision to use an ice cream maker for this week’s recipe, I went right out and bought one.  I had all the ingredients in my fridge so that I could get right to it when I got back from my trip to Ocean [...]

Tuesdays With Dorie - Black-And-White Banana Loaf

Posted by Mike Spoodles on August 5th, 2008 filed in food

How blaise!  I put together a recipe and it turned out pretty well.  With the exception of replacing whole milk with 2% milk, I followed this thing to the letter.  It turned out well.  It was moist and delicious.  I have no complaints (and subsequently nothing to write about).
I’m beginning to feel more comfortable baking, [...]
